NORTH LITTLE ROCK, ARK.– UA – Pulaski Tech’s annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be a virtual event featuring bestselling author and distinguished professor Dr. Michael Eric Dyson on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021 at 6 p.m.
Mayo Johnson, UA-PTC computer science faculty and member of Chancellor’s task force on diversity, equity and inclusion, will moderate the event. Participants include Little Rock spoken word artist Chris James; recording artist Genine LaTrice Perez; Rev. Cecil Gibson with a recitation of Martin Luther King, Jr’s “I Have A Dream” speech; and UA-PTC Chancellor Margaret Ellibee.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, is Distinguished University Professor of African American and Diaspora Studies, College of Arts & Science, and Distinguished University Professor of Ethics and Society, The Divinity School, and Centennial Professor at Vanderbilt University.
He is one of America’s premier public intellectuals and author of over 20 books, including seven New York Times bestsellers. A contributing opinion writer for the New York Times, and political analyst for MSNBC, Dyson is recipient of two NAACP Image Awards and the 2020 Langston Hughes Festival Medallion. Former President Barack Obama has noted: “Everybody who speaks after Michael Eric Dyson pales in comparison.”
